Check out these photos I found from my little little kid days. Spent the afternoon laughing and reminiscing with my mom. It was really nice to reconnect with her since we haven’t in awhile. Hope these make you smile as much as I did:)
So… I didn’t end up going anywhere. I got to stay home! No slacking for me tho. Back on the training program again. Lisa has been pushing me in the gym, sweating bullets. Watching what I am eating and trying to dial in and fine tune everything. Guess what?! I can now stand on the swiss ball! There has been some “small kine” action on the north shore so I was up there trying to dial in my quiver for the winter season. Hanging with my family and friends and trying to lay low a little. Learned how to drive stick and stalled three times in the middle of an intersection. I was stressing. Three weeks at home just isn’t enough but I had to leave for a whirlwind tour of the mainland.
First stop was New York for a two day media tour. The interviews got a little repetitive but my best friend took the train from UPENN and spent a night with me in the city which made it all worth while. Highlight was most definitely meeting Kim Kardashian! Yea… I hate to admit it but I am a big fan of her reality show. Next stop was Portland, Oregon for a tour of the Nike Campus. It is massive! All the buildings are named after athletes. I don’t have one… yet;) but I have a flag so I guess that will do for now haha. It was neat to see what happens behind the scenes and meet all the people that make what I do possible. Last and final stop was SoCal for a mini training camp and rendezvous with Blake Griffin. That’s where I am now. Few more interviews and then heading home this evening…yes!
Home is oh so sweet. It feels nice to settle into somewhat of a normal routine again. I love the spontaneity of being on the road and never knowing what is going to happen next but there is nothing like waking up to your own kitchen, driving your own car, seeing familiar faces, and surfing Walos. I am lucky enough to have the best of both worlds I guess. My Cali trip wrapped up quite nicely. I was invited to do a Cote’s Cube with Mr. Chris Cote himself. He is such a funny human. We talked about guys I want to marry, Bobby Martinez’s post interview, bro-hos (whatever those are?) haha… It turned out to be a very interesting web piece. I branched out of my comfort zone and found myself at a snowboarding movie premiere. I think snow boarders are pretty rad. They make riding a huge mountain look so fun and effortless, it’s crazy. I know it really isn’t, the bunny hill in Aspen was my worst nightmare. Over the weekend I had an all day photo shoot with Nike and got to practice channeling my sexy;) Laura and I had a blast frolicking on the sand, posing in front of random walls and planking on benches. I don’t know how long I will be home for. Possibly just long enough to finish washing all my clothes and repacking them. There is already more action on the charts so I maybe chasing another swell again soon. Yew!
I got to play tourist the past couple days. My friend, Blake, took me to Encinitas and Carlsbad for the first time. We did a drive by Swamies one of the famous surf breaks in the area and ate at a sweet smoothie shop. The vibe down south was so mellow, I loved it. Blake by the way is the man! He travelled with me all year filming and taking pictures and is keeping me company while I am here. Check out his blog: ginger-vision.com… so rad. After all the surfing and boy drama, I decided I needed a break and treated myself to a little retail therapy. Blake and I drove up to LA and went shopping at Niketown. It’s amazing how a new pair of bright Nike kicks can brighten your day:) Also did a little damage on the credit card at some of the outlet stores… oops! I promise it will all go to good use. What else? San Clemente is starting to buzz as the top forty five come to town for the Hurley Pro this weekend. Pretty fun to be in the same arena and share a few waves with the boys this morning.
